The art installation Beautifica continues at OMSI in Portland for four select dates in July, with tickets already moving fast.
A groundbreaking new art installation is currently taking Portland by storm. Beautifica 360, the anticipated follow-up to the record-breaking Mesmerica 360, will return to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) with its trippy animations and fully immersive experience. Created by visionary composer James Hood in collaboration with some of the world’s finest motion animators, Beautifica 360 promises to transport audiences on a mesmerizing 360° journey through “realms both real and imagined.
Following the success of Mesmerica, which had truly captivated its audiences, it was time for composer James Hood to go deeper as an artist. A drummer and percussionist, he played with the British-American rock band The Pretenders, masterminded the ambient electronica act Moodswings, and wrote expansive library soundtrack projects. The story continued with the release of Mesmerica, the global smash-hit which gave rise to the now record-breaking immersive 360°experience.
During the pandemic, James created the album and sister show Beautifica, an evolution of his sound and a euphoric celebration of life. What could assist humanity in recovering from the profound effects of a global pandemic and lockdown? His answer was Beautifica.
Beautifica is more than just an art installation. It’s a transformative experience designed to promote joy through larger-than-life imagery. Hood’s vision, coupled with the unparalleled talent of motion animators, creates a breathtaking spectacle that resonates deeply. It is a celebration of life that aims to uplift and inspire, reminding us of the beauty that surrounds us even in the most challenging times.

OMSI is proud to host Beautifica 360 for four select dates in July, and tickets are already in high demand. Show times are scheduled at 5:30 pm and 7 pm.
